Don’t look now, but there’s a new contender at light heavyweight.
Carlos Ulberg passed his most difficult test to date at UFC London, as he edged former 205-pound king Jan Blachowicz via unanimous decision at the O2 Arena on Saturday. It wasn’t pretty, but it isn’t easy to look good against the powerful Pole. “Black Jag” has now won eight consecutive Octagon appearances, and a title shot could be on the horizon for the streaking Kiwi, who climbs all the way to fifth in Sherdog’s light heavyweight rankings.

Elsewhere, 10th-ranked heavyweight Marcin Tybura offered a typical workmanlike performance, as he slowed the ascent of the previously unbeaten Mick Parkin on the UFC London prelims. The Polish veteran won’t be entering championship discussions anytime soon, but he remains a solid litmus test for divisional up-and-comers, which he proved yet again on Saturday.
Finally, Moeri Suda asserted herself as a person of interest at atomweight with a first-round submission of former Rizin champion Ayaka Hamasaki in the Deep Jewels 48 main event on Sunday. Just 20 years old, “Black Diamond” has submitted three straight opponents and enters the divisional poll at No. 6.
