Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings

Phenomenal Fortune

Ketlen Vieira isn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

While many observers didn’t think the Brazilian deserved the nod against Holly Holm in the UFC Fight Night 206 headliner, those opinions don’t matter nearly as much as judges Michael Bell and Derek Cleary, both of whom submitted 48-47 tallies for “Fenomeno” to give her a controversial split decision triumph on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Vieira has won three of her last four Octagon appearances, a stretch that includes back-to-back triumphs over former title holders in Holm and Miesha Tate.

A victory over the previously third-ranked Holm certainly carries some weight, but it wasn’t the type of emphatic performance that warrants a serious climb in Sherdog’s female bantamweight poll. Plus, some of the head-to-head results in the division — notably Vieira’s recent loss to Yana Kunitskaya — make it difficult for the Brazilian to rise too far. As a result, she moves up just one spot to sixth, while Holm tumbles below her to seventh.
