After testing the waters as a free agent, Kayla Harrison has elected to return to Professional Fighters League.

The PFL announced Tuesday that the two-time Olympic gold medalist has signed a multi-year contract extension to return to the organization where she began her mixed martial arts career. Ariel Helwani recently reported that the promotion matched an offer from Bellator MMA to retain Harrison, while PFL founder Donn Davis called the deal a “historic new contract.” Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“It is a privilege to announce the PFL has signed the most dominant MMA fighter in the world, Kayla Harrison, to a new multi-year agreement,” said PFL CEO Peter Murray in a release. “I am also excited to announce the PFL is launching a new Pay-Per-View Super Fight Division where star MMA fighters will compete on a global stage against the best fighters in the sport. Two-time PFL Champion, Kayla Harrison, will be fighting in the PFL’s 2022 Season starting this April on ESPN networks and will also continue to build her legacy as a main event in the PFL’s PPV Super Fight Division.”

Harrison has been the PFL’s biggest star since making her debut with the promotion on June 21, 2018. The 31-year-old American Top Team product has compiled a 12-0 mark during her professional MMA tenure, capturing championships at 155 pounds in 2019 and 2021. She also competed once for Invicta FC, winning a fight against Courtney King at 145 pounds.

The Olympic judoka fought out her existing PFL contract this past October, when she submitted Taylor Guardado in the second round of the organization’s 2021 championships. During free agency, she was in talks with the UFC as well as Bellator and went back and forth with the likes of Cristiane Justino on social media. Ultimately, Harrison elected to make a third run at a 155-pound title in PFL.

The PFL’s 2022 season is slated to begin in April.
