Henry Cejudo: I'm Not Opposed To Rematching Dillashaw at 125

Earlier this month, Henry Cejudo proved his doubters wrong for a second time in a row by stopping bantamweight champion T.J Dillashaw in a super-fight for Cejudo’s flyweight title in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first card on ESPN+.

Dillashaw claimed after the fight that the stoppage was premature and immediately demanded a rematch at flyweight or even at bantamweight, his customary weight class.

Now, with consecutive victories over Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson, Cejudo appears to hold all of the cards in terms of his next fight and said in a recent interview with MMA Junkie that he’d be open for a rematch against Dillshaw at 125 pounds:

“If T.J. wants to run it back at 125 pounds, we can do that,” Cejudo said. “I thought about it, we can welcome him, too. If he feels like he can still beat me at ’25, well, let’s run it again.”

The future of the flyweight division has been under a cloud in recent months with rumors circulating that the UFC were prepared to cut the division. It seems Cejudo’s win at flyweight over Dillshaw helped to keep the division afloat for the short term.

Fans of the 125-pound division are hopeful Cejudo remains at flyweight as they see him as the new face of the division after he claimed the flyweight belt last August in a split decision over Johnson, who many believed was the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. “Mighty Mouse” left the promotion for One Championship last year.

Despite that, Cejudo said he’s open to fighting Dillashaw at either 125 or 135 pounds.

“To be quite honest with you, he’s my first choice,” Cejudo said of Dillashaw. “To go to ’35 would be more of a legacy, but I’m not opposed for him coming down, too, to 125. I’m not opposed to it.”

If the Dillashaw fight doesn’t go ahead, Cejudo said he’ll stay at 125 pounds and fight Joseph Benvidez -- who beat him back in 2016 -- instead.

“But the next person in line for me would be Benavidez,” Cejudo said.
