By the Numbers: UFC 211

In a division known for its lack of security at the top, Stipe Miocic is about as stable as it gets these days.

The Ohio-based firefighter retained his heavyweight crown in emphatic fashion in the UFC 211 headliner, as he stopped Junior dos Santos via technical knockout 2:22 into the opening round of their encounter at American Airlines Arena in Dallas on Saturday night. After losing a brutal five-round battle to dos Santos in their first meeting two and a half years ago at UFC on Fox 13, Miocic cemented himself as the sport’s top big man with a much shorter night at the office.

In his next title defense, Miocic will look to take sole possession of the promotion record for most consecutive title defenses at heavyweight. Here is a by the numbers look at UFC 211, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.

225: Significant strikes landed by Joanna Jedrzejczyk in her five-round verdict against Jessica Andrade in the UFC 211 co-main event. That figure ranks as the second-most significant strikes landed by any fighter in UFC history. Nate Diaz holds the top spot with 238 significant strikes landed in a win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 141. 19: UFC triumphs for Demian Maia following his split-decision victory over Jorge Masvidal in a featured welterweight affair. That ties him with Donald Cerrone and Georges St. Pierre for the second-most wins in promotion history.

4: Takedowns landed in 12 attempts by Maia. The Brazilian went 3 for 5 in round one, 0 for 6 in round two and 1 for 1 in round three.

60: Career takedowns landed by Maia, who moved past Jon Fitch (58) and Nik Lentz (59) and into seventh all-time in UFC history in that category on Saturday night.

16: Significant strikes by which Masvidal outlanded Maia. However, the 39-year-old Brazilian held a 67-to-55 edge in total strikes landed.

6:27:49: Total fight time for Frankie Edgar, most in UFC history. “The Answer” spent 10 minutes in the Octagon against Yair Rodriguez in winning via doctor stoppage after two rounds on Saturday. Michael Bisping is No. 2 in total fight time at 5:48:40.

56: Significant strikes by which Edgar outlanded Rodriguez in the featherweight clash. The New Jersey native outlanded his foe 40 to 10 in round one and 32 to 6 in round two before the bout was halted due to swelling around Rodriguez’s eye.

69: Significant strikes on the ground landed by Edgar. By comparison, Rodriguez landed just 11 significant ground strikes.

71: Combined significant strikes landed by Dustin Poirier (44) and Eddie Alvarez (27) during the wild second round of their lightweight scrap. The contest was halted and ruled a no contest at the 4:12 mark of the frame after Alvarez landed an illegal knee and Poirier could not continue.

67: Combined significant strikes landed by David Branch and Krzysztof Jotko in the entirety of their three-round middleweight encounter. That’s four less than Poirier and Alvarez landed in the second round of their bout alone. Branch, a former WSOF two-division champ, outlanded his foe 39 to 28 and won a forgettable split-decision.

4: Consecutive victories for Jason Knight following his second-round technical knockout victory over Chas Skelly. That ties him with Cub Swanson and Darren Elkins for the third-longest active winning streak in the featherweight division. Only Max Holloway (nine) and Conor McGregor (seven) have longer winning streaks.

11: Submission attempts by Knight in his last three UFC bouts, victories over Skelly, Alex Caceres and Dan Hooker. The Mississippi native attempted three submissions against Skelly and four each against Caceres and Hooker.

67: Significant strikes by which Chase Sherman outlanded Rashad Coulter in their heavyweight clash. Sherman won via knockout 3:36 into round two when he connected with an elbow to the head in the clinch.

7-1: UFC record for James Vick, who has quietly compiled an impressive resume since his Octagon debut in August 2013. Vick’s only defeat during that time came in a first-round knockout loss to Beneil Dariush at UFC 199.

172: Total strikes landed by Cortney Casey in a three-round verdict over former World Series of Fighting titlist Jessica Aguilar. By comparison, Aguilar landed 102 total strikes. Casey also attempted more than twice as many strikes (368 to 154) than her opponent.

9: Takedowns landed in 15 attempts by Enrique Barzola in a unanimous decision win against Gabriel Benitez at featherweight. Barzola landed three takedowns in round one, four in round two and two in round three.
