By The Numbers: UFC on ESPN 46

Amir Albazi kept the momentum going at UFC on ESPN 46.

In a decision that figures to be hotly debated in the coming days, Albazi captured a split verdict against Kai Kara-France in Saturday’s headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. That makes five consecutive promotional triumphs for Albazi, who is quickly rising up the ranks of flyweight contenders.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC on ESPN 46, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

4: Consecutive flyweight triumphs for Albazi, tying him with Muhammad Mokaev for the longest active winning streak in the UFC at 125 pounds. Albazi’s overall UFC winning streak is five, but the first of those triumphs came at bantamweight.

19: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 21 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that had the fight in favor of Kara-France. Judges Sal D’Amato and Chris Lee saw things differently, with both awarding Albazi 48-47 tallies.

99: Significant strikes landed by Kara-France. By comparison, Albazi landed 43. Kara-France outlanded his opponent 13 to 6 in Round 1, 16 to 11 in Round 2, nine to three in Round 3, 27 to 5 in Round 4 and 34 to 18 in Round 5. Kara-France attempted nearly twice as many significant strikes as his opponent, throwing 283 to Albazi’s 145.

8: Takedowns successfully defended by Kara-France in nine attempts. Albazi landed his lone attempt in Round 3, when he took his foe’s back, logged 3:36 of control time and threatened with a rear-naked choke. Kara-France went 2-for-2 on takedowns but secured just 58 seconds of control time in the bout.

11: Featherweight victories in UFC competition for Alex Caceres, tying him with Ricardo Lamas for the fourth-most in promotion history at 145 pounds. Only Max Holloway (19), Darren Elkins (16) and Cub Swanson (13) have won more. Caceres defeated Daniel Pineda via unanimous decision in Saturday’s co-main event.

7-1: Record for Caceres in UFC competition since July 2019.

27: Significant strikes by which Caceres outlanded Pineda in a dominant third round. That included an 18-to-2 edge in body strikes.

82: Combined UFC fights for Jim Miller (42) and Andrei Arlovski (40), who rank first and second in most total bouts in promotion history. Miller earned a first-round knockout win over Jesse Butler, while Arlovski was stopped in the second stanza by Don’Tale Mayes in a preliminary heavyweight bout.

3: Occasions in which Miller and Arlovski have shared a UFC card, including Saturday night. The other events were UFC Fight Night 150 on April 27, 2019 and UFC Fight Night 195 on Oct. 16, 2021.

25: Career UFC wins for Miller, making him the first fighter in promotion history to reach that milestone. Arlovski is tied with the retired Donald Cerrone for second place with 23 wins.

17: Finishes in UFC competition for Miller, No. 2 in promotion history behind former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

0:23: Time of Miller’s knockout win against Butler, the fastest finish of his UFC tenure.

1: Knockdown for Mayes in six UFC appearances. The first one proved to be significant, as it allowed him to finish Arlovski at the 3:17 mark of Round 2 in their heavyweight matchup.

6: Takedowns landed in seven attempts by Tim Elliott in a unanimous decision victory over Victor Altamirano at flyweight. That was the most of anyone on the UFC on ESPN 46 card. Elliott also logged 11:13 of control time to his opponent’s 1:04 and outlanded him by a 153-to-102 count in total strikes.

58: Career takedowns for Elliott in UFC competition. That ties him with ex-champ Demetrious Johnson for the most in the history of the flyweight division.

1:08:16: Career control time for Elliott, who surpassed Dustin Ortiz and Ray Borg to move into second place in UFC flyweight history in this category behind Johnson (1:26:54).

16: Finishes among 16 professional victories for Karine Silva, who need just 1:45 to submit Ketlen Souza with a kneebar in their flyweight clash. Silva has finished both of her UFC opponents inside of a round.

94: Total strikes landed by Elise Reed in a three-round verdict over Jinh Yu Frey at strawweight. By comparison, Frey landed 42. That offset Frey landing the bout’s only three takedowns and 4:09 to 1:29 advantage in control time.

38: Significant strikes by which Da'Mon Blackshear outlanded Luan Lacerda in their bantamweight pairing. That included a 20-to-0 edge in significant ground strikes, as Blackshear ended the contest with ground-and-pound at the 3:54 mark of Round 2.
