By The Numbers: UFC Tampa Pre-Fight Edition


Welterweight lightning rod Colby Covington on Saturday will return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship stage for the first time in nearly a year when he matches wits and fists with Joaquin Buckley in the UFC on ESPN 63 headliner at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Meanwhile, the ageless Cub Swanson challenges onetime King of the Cage champion Billy Quarantillo in the three-round co-main event at 145 pounds.

On the eve of UFC on ESPN 63 “Covington vs. Buckley,” a look at some of the numbers the fighters on the docket bring to the table:

1,972: Total strikes landed by Covington as a UFC welterweight, placing him fifth on the promotion’s all-time list at 170 pounds. Only Neil Magny (2,561), Georges St. Pierre (2,523), Kamaru Usman (2,369) and Jon Fitch (2,039) have connected with more.

250,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses banked by Buckley across his 14 appearances in the UFC. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” five times.

41: Years of age for Swanson. The oldest fighter on the card, he was born on Nov. 2, 1983 in Palm Springs, California.

5: Quarantillo wins by submission, accounting for 28% of his career total (18). His methods of choice: two armbars, two triangle chokes and one rear-naked choke.

84: Percent finish rate for former Rizin Fighting Federation champion Manel Kape. Sixteen of his 19 victories have come inside the distance. Kape puts Bruno Silva to the test in a three-round flyweight showcase.

53: Rounds started by Silva as a professional mixed martial artist. The American Top Team rep has involved the judges on nine different occasions and carries a 4-3-2 record in those bouts.

2: Sub-minute stoppages on the Vitor Petrino resume. The Dana White’s Contender Series graduate punched out Rodolfo Bellato in 25 seconds under the Max Fights banner on May 3, 2019 and cast aside Fabio Barbosa Gois with punches in 45 seconds under the Adventure Fighters Tournament flag on Feb. 21, 2021. Petrino draws Dustin Jacoby in a three-round light heavyweight feature.

12: Jacoby victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 63% of his career total (19). The Factory X standout’s list of UFC victims: Kennedy Nzechukwu, Da Woon Jung, Darren Stewart and Justin Ledet.

7: Organizations for which Adrian Yanez has plied his mixed martial arts trade. He has gone 6-2 in the UFC, 3-2 in Legacy Fighting Alliance, 4-0 in Fury Fighting Championship, 1-1 in Legacy Fighting Championship, 1-0 in Dana White’s Contender Series, 1-0 in Bellator MMA and 1-0 in Texas City Throwdown. Yanez tackles the unbeaten Daniel Marcos in a three-round bantamweight attraction.

47: Seconds needed for Marcos to wipe out Luis Zuniga at a 300 Sparta show on April 28, 2017. More than seven years later, it remains his fastest finish to date.

6,752: Miles between where Navajo Stirling trains at City Kickboxing in Auckland, New Zealand, and Ultimate Fighting Championship headquarters in Las Vegas. Stirling toes the line against George Tokkos in a three-round light heavyweight appetizer.

8: Consecutive calendar years in which Tokkos has fought at least once. In addition to his 1-1 mark in 2024, the Kill Cliff Fight Club product went 2-0 in 2017, 2-0 in 2018, 0-1 in 2019, 0-1 in 2020, 2-0 in 2021, 1-1 in 2022 and 2-0 in 2023.

26: Years of age for Felipe Lima. The youngest fighter on the card, he was born on May 7, 1998 in Coari, Brazil. Lima faces Miles Johns in a three-round featherweight prelim.

.770: Cumulative winning percentage between the 26 fighters slated to compete at the event. They boast a combined record of 385-113-5. Swanson has the most wins (29) of anyone on the card, while “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 12 finalist Michael Johnson has been saddled with the most losses (19). Johnson meets ex-Brave Combat Federation champion Ottman Azaitar in the featured lightweight prelim.
