By The Numbers: Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Alex Perez

Deiveson Figueiredo laid claim to the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight title four months ago. Now comes the difficult task of cementing his reign by successfully defending it against the No. 1 contender.

Figueiredo will put his 125-pound championship on the line against Team Oyama’s Alex Perez in the UFC 255 headliner this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The Brazilian enters the cage on the strength of a four-fight winning streak. Figueiredo last competed at UFC Fight Night 172, where he choked Joseph Benavidez unconscious to capture the flyweight crown on July 18. Perez, meanwhile, has recorded 11 wins across his past 12 appearances. He last fought at UFC 250 in June, when he cut down Jussier Formiga with a first-round leg kick.

As Figueiredo and Perez prepare for their winner-take-all showdown, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

32: Years of age for Figueiredo, who was born on Dec. 18, 1987 in Soure, Brazil.

15: Consecutive victories to start Figueiredo’s career. His undefeated run ended with a unanimous decision loss to the aforementioned Formiga at UFC Fight Night 148 in March 2019.

9: Figueiredo wins by knockout or technical knockout, providing him with 47% of his professional total (19). His list of victims includes Benavidez, John Moraga, Joseph Morales and Marco Beltran. Figueiredo owns seven other victories by submission.

53: Seconds needed for Figueiredo to submit David Raimundo Arcangela Silva with a guillotine choke at a Jurunense Open Fight MMA in 2014. Having taken place in his third pro appearance, it remains the fastest finish of his 20-fight career.

8: Knockdowns landed by Figueiredo as a UFC flyweight, placing him first on the organization’s all-time list at 125 pounds. John Lineker (seven), Benavidez (six), John Dodson (six) and Ryan Benoit (four) round out the Top 5.

28: Years of age for Perez, who was born in Hanford, California, on March 21, 1992—roughly a month after “Wayne’s World” debuted at the domestic box office.

7: Perez victories by submission, accounting for 29% of his career total. His methods of choice: two anaconda chokes, one kimura, one rear-naked choke, one guillotine choke, one brabo choke and one arm-triangle choke. Perez owns five other wins by knockout or technical knockout.

69: Combined wins between the five men—Benavidez, Jared Papazian, Adam Antolin, John MaCalolooy and Edgar Diaz—who have beaten Perez.

1: Sub-minute finish on the Perez resume. He submitted Jeff Carson with a standing guillotine choke 48 seconds into their Tachi Palace Fights 16 pairing on Aug. 22, 2013.

1.51: Knockdowns landed per 15 minutes in the UFC, giving Perez the highest such rate for a flyweight in promotional history. Figueiredo (1.37) ranks second all-time in the category at 125 pounds.
