Featherweights
Danny Silva (9-1, 1-0 UFC) vs. Lucas Almeida (15-3, 2-2 UFC)ODDS: Silva (-205), Almeida (+170)
This should be an entertaining scrap, as two featherweights look to figure out their place in the division. Silva is an interesting prospect to track, as he has been highly successful thus far in his mixed martial arts career but feels like he still has another level to hit. Silva’s approach is fairly straightforward, applying constant pressure and throwing out volume while mixing in a bit of wrestling and cage work as needed. That high-paced approach resulted in winning one of the best fights in Dana White’s Contender Series history against Angel Pacheco in 2023, as well as scoring a surprising upset in his UFC debut against the underrated Joshua Culibao. But for all of Silva’s aggression and accuracy, it seems like he should be knocking more people out. It’s a good sign that he has been able to consistently put together three strong rounds, but it will be fascinating to see if he eventually turns a corner and becomes more of a killer. Perhaps that will happen here against Almeida, who will certainly give Silva lots of opportunities, as the Brazilian also prefers a more aggressive approach. Below a certain level of competition, Almeida is an entertaining scrapper who can put on a show, but his three losses have shown that there are a few different ways that he can get derailed. Daniel Zellhuber’s reach froze him into a less aggressive performance; Pat Sabatini out-wrestled him; and Andre Fili quickly knocked him out. This should be a fairly even fight, as these two should generally look to keep throwing, but at this point, Almeida has shown more ways that he can lose, even if he has proven more potent in terms of finding a finish. The pick is Silva via decision.
