For a fighter who has become known for a slow and plodding style of holding down his opponents, Thiago’s debut in the UFC could not have been more spectacular.

Heading into his bout with Josh Koscheck at UFC 95 in London, Thiago was a heavy underdog against a man who had only lost three times in 16 fights. As is often the case in MMA, something unthinkable occurred. A grappler who most believed did not pose a significant threat to Koscheck landed a right uppercut flush on the chin of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 1 alum. Thiago followed with a left hook that led referee Marc Goddard to step in and stop the bout 3:29 into the first round.

Thiago has since gone 4-7 in the UFC, recently dropping a decision to Gasan Umalatov at “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3” Finale. Though his run in MMA may be nearing its end, he has taken up a post as a member of the police force in Brasilia, Brazil.
