Swick Makes Welterweight Debut Versus Goulet

"The Road Warrior" Jonathan Goulet (Pictures) will step into the octagon at UFC Fight Night 11 this September against Mike Swick (Pictures).

Goulet told Sherdog that after his KOTC Canada victory over Cory MacDonald (Pictures) last weekend in Halifax, his new manager, Ken Pavia, asked him if he would be interested in fighting Swick. After saying yes, Pavia then made the offer to UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, who in turn made the offer to Swick's team.

Goulet said turned Swick turned the fight down. And when he mentioned the rejection to his friend and training partner David Loiseau (Pictures), "The Crow" suggested that Goulet make a challenge on the Internet, which Goulet confirms that he did on several forums, including Sherdog.net.

In the post Goulet asked, "Is he scared to go to sleep against me?"

Swick's trainer and manager Bob Cook told Sherdog.com that Goulet was never part of the discussion until he was offered, and the AKA-trained fighter said yes immediately.

"We jumped at him," said Cook. "We have no problem fighting Goulet."

Either way, the match is now set to happen at The Palms in Las Vegas and will be broadcast on SpikeTV.

Goulet also mentioned that he would follow the footsteps of teammate Patrick Cote (Pictures) and head south to Somerville, Mass., where he will train with former "Ultimate Fighter" coach Mark DellaGrotte at his Sityodtong USA Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts Academy.
