They were two of the most emotionally volatile competitors on the UFC roster at the time, and their pairing made for great theater.

Sanchez moved to 16-0 with a three-round unanimous decision over Parisyan in the UFC Fight Night 6 main event at the Red Rock Resort Spa and Casino. “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 1 winner drew 29-28, 29-28 and 30-26 scores from the judges, as he continued to establish himself as a real threat in the welterweight division. The 15-minute affair was marked by wild scrambles and crude-but-entertaining standup exchanges between the two grapplers.

The highlights were many and included a breathtaking judo throw in which Parisyan dumped “The Nightmare” on his head in Round 1. Sanchez, however, landed the two most significant strikes of the bout: a first-round uppercut that left Parisyan with significant damage to his left eye and a third-round knee strike that sent a veneer flying. Wielding the superior gas tank, Sanchez was at his best in Round 3. There, he battered Parisyan with dirty boxing in the clinch, scrambled to the judoka’s back after being taken down and climbed briefly to full mount. Parisyan had nothing left by the time it was over.
