Before these two warriors went on to become UFC light heavyweight champions, Jackson and Liddell collided inside Pride Fighting Championships in one of the most anticipated showdowns of 2003. The Ultimate Fighting Championship agreed to send a few of its stars -- Liddell and Ricco Rodriguez -- to Japan and expected Pride to return the favor; it never did. Nevertheless, Liddell was bracketed into the 2003 Pride middleweight grand prix, and the UFC expected him to win. Jackson had other ideas.

Not long after the second round began, “Rampage” executed a takedown and landed in Liddell’s half guard. “The Iceman” was running on fumes and lacked the energy necessary to explode back to his feet. Jackson remained in top position and started driving right fist after right fist into Liddell’s side, the level of ferocity increasing with each blow. Liddell refused to give in, so “Rampage” began driving vicious elbows into his guts. The Californian tried to escape the onslaught, to no avail, and his corner, having seen enough, threw in the towel.
