Jones cannot seem to get out of his own way. Had he not run aground outside the cage, he likely would rank higher on this list and would almost certainly still be sitting atop the UFC light heavyweight division. As it stands, he has placed his career in peril.

Facing a possible two-year suspension for a positive PED test prior to UFC 200, Jones continues in his role as MMA’s most polarizing and maddening figure. He had been suspended previously and stripped of the UFC light heavyweight title after repeated run-ins with the law, including a hit-and-run incident in which a pregnant woman was injured. The 29-year-old deposed former champion has already carved out a historic resume, highlighted by wins over chief rivals Alexander Gustafsson and Daniel Cormier. Since being disqualified against Matt Hamill for utilizing illegal 12-to-6 elbows at “The Ultimate Fighter 10” Finale in December 2009, Jones has rattled off 13 consecutive victories, the majority of them decisive in nature. His list of vanquished opponents includes Ryan Bader, Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort and Glover Teixeira.

Jones was on his way to possibly becoming the greatest mixed martial artist of all-time, but his behavior outside the cage has put that kind of legacy building on hold.
