6. FITTING FINAL CHAPTER

One can only wonder how everything would have played out if Wanderlei Silva had retired following his epic UFC on Fuel TV 8 encounter with Brian Stann at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan on March 3, 2013.

In one of the wildest fights in Ultimate Fighting Championship history -- which went down in the very arena in which “The Axe Murderer” built his legend -- Silva came out on top after nine minutes of chaos. The two rounds of action featured Silva being knocked down and getting back up three times. There were insane exchanges throughout, with both men pushing the pendulum in their direction before Silva finished Stann with a second-round knockout. It was the last bout in which Silva was involved.

The fight ultimately sent both men into retirement, but it was not the result that mattered as much as the body of work.
