• Former UFC middleweight Frank Trigg announced that he has signed a four-fight deal to return to the promotion on a date to be announced.
• World Victory Road announced the field for its "Project Gold Rush" reality show tournament, set to begin taping in mid-June and concluding at the Sengoku event on Aug. 2 at Saitama Super Arena. Participants are from the 132-, 143-, and 154-pound classes. At 132, the participants are Takeshi Numajiri, Daisuke Endo, Ryosuke Komori and Hiroyuki Hara. At 143, it will be Shigeki Osawa, Takayuki Kishi, Makoto Sannai and Toru Harai. And at 154, it will be Ikuo Usuda, Koji Ando, Kota Okazawa and Kohei Muruyama.
• Two aspiring MMA fighters suffered what many fear are career-ending injuries this past week. Zach Kirk, of Iowa, broke his neck during a fight in Iowa after his opponent landed on him following a takedown attempt. It is unsure when or if Kirk will regain the use of his legs.
In Minnesota, fighter Jessica Bednark was in a coma this week after developing a sensation in her legs during training that was later found to be caused by a ruptured brain artery.
