This was another case of a leg kick gone wrong.
Landi-Jons, better known as “Pele” for his kicks, emphatically threw a shot to the leg of Gassaway early in the second round of their encounter at the Bell Centre. The break was evident immediately. The referee saw it and Gassaway let up on his follow-up punches, leaving Landi-Jons to writhe in pain. After eight months away from the sport, “Pele” returned to action and went on to accrue four consecutive wins. In fact, the 40-year-old has only lost once since suffering the injury.
