8. Ken Shamrock vs. Leon van Dijk
Pancrase “Eyes of Beast 1”
Jan. 26, 1995 | Nagoya, Japan

Shamrock went to work on van Dijk with a heel hook that rotated nearly 360 degrees. The maneuver has always been one of MMA’s most dangerous submissions, but a cross-body heel hook paired with an opponent who does not know how to escape can result in the truly horrific. See Rousimar Palhares for further examples.

While it is obvious van Dijk made things quite easy on “The World’s Most Dangerous Man,” the Dutch fighter was in the midst of a six-fight losing streak when they met at Aichi Budokan. Shamrock scored the submission 4:45 into round one. For what it’s worth, van Dijk fought for another four years, racking up a career mark of 6-11.
