When these rivals first met in 2011, the Bellator MMA lightweight championship was hanging in the balance. Chandler fought like a man possessed. They battled for three full rounds, each man giving as good as he took at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Finally, in the fourth round, Chandler caught the defending champion in a rear-naked choke and snatched away the title. It remains one of the most-talked-about bouts in Bellator history.

Alvarez and Chandler locked horns again two years later at Bellator 106, and they picked up right where they left off. A grueling five-round clash ensued, though Alvarez stayed a step ahead of his counterpart and walked away with a split decision and the Bellator lightweight crown. Alvarez later vacated the title to sign with the UFC.
