Smith figured to be headed for a prospect loss at some point. The talented striker’s lone pre-UFC setback came to John Gunther, which suggested that Smith would have to prove himself when matched against a stronger wrestler. That made it a shock when Smith suffered a loss against late replacement and former training partner Khama Worthy, who authored the knockout in one of the biggest upsets of 2019. A year and a half later, Smith looks to rebound against Jaynes. A late replacement, Jaynes will be trying to replicate his successful UFC debut, where he stepped in on short notice and scored a quick knockout over Frank Camacho. That basically sums up Jaynes’ approach. “Guitar Hero” looks to score a quick knockout and can keep up his pace for about a round before things start to go south. Smith’s loss to Worthy obviously shows he can be vulnerable again here, but he looks to be the more reliable striker—provided he can last past that first round. The pick is Smith via second-round knockout.
