Two on-paper favorites to win this season’s “Ultimate Fighter” tournament, undefeated Nick Ring and veteran Kyacey Uscola, were eliminated from the competition on this week’s episode.

Ring, 10-0, bowed out citing a nagging left ACL injury that a doctor told him will require a third surgery. Uscola, who missed the birth of a child to compete on the show, dropped a fight to Kris McCray when he tapped to an Americana in the second round. The fight was the first “wild card” fight in TUF history, where two fighters who had lost prior were given a second shot without another competitor withdrawing. McCray faces Kyle Noke in the next round.

Also advancing to the semifinal round this week was Court McGee, who defeated James Hammortree via submission after locking a second-round guillotine choke. McGee was set to rematch Ring before the Canadian dropped out. Hammortree impressed UFC President Dana White by approaching him after a visit to the house and declaring his desire to fight again.

Also set for the semifinal round are Brad Tavares vs. Seth Baczynski and Jamie Yager vs. Josh Bryant.

The episode scored a 1.0 rating on Spike TV for an average of 1.3 million viewers, the lowest of the season thus far. Next week’s episode should get a boost from commercials that are promoting the exit of Tito Ortiz, whose withdrawal from the show sparked weeks of Internet speculation and led to the UFC 115 main event being switched to Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin.
