The matchup wasn't pretty, and neither was the finish. Ray Mercer, the 48-year-old boxer, took out former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia in nine seconds with a right hand on June 13 in Birmingham, Ala.

Sylvia, 33, who told Sherdog.com he was "extremely embarrassed" by the outcome, came into the fight north of 300 pounds.

By virtue of the knockout, Sylvia also lost an opportunity to compete on the next Affliction card on Aug. 1, where he was to be matched with Paul Buentello. Affliction promoters pulled him from the card because they didn't want to risk Sylvia not being cleared by the athletic commission.

Sylvia told Sherdog.com that he is ready to fight and is looking to Japan for his next bout. In addition, he told Fighters Only that he’d like to be featured on the MTV show “Bully Beatdown” to beat up on some people who gave him a hard time in school.

The knockout took place on an "Adrenaline MMA" show promoted by Sylvia's manager Monte Cox. The show wasn't televised, but a video of the KO spread quickly across the Internet. The fight was originally scheduled in New Jersey, but that state athletic commission wouldn't allow the fight, mostly because Mercer, a former boxing Olympic gold medalist, had 44 boxing fights and Sylvia had zero.

The fight was moved to Alabama, where there is no commission oversight. The fight was originally going to be a boxing match, but was changed to an MMA rules match once national boxing officials admonished the original plan to regulate it under a Canadian commission as illegal.
