10. Yves Lavigne Thinks Mac Danzig is Unconscious in a Matt Wiman Guillotine

It was one of the featured bouts of UFC 115. Mac Danzig was trying to continue to build off a win over Justin Buchholz after losing three straight. He could ill-afford to lose to Matt Wiman, who wasn’t in the best of positions after losing two of his previous three. Needless to say, it was must-win for both fighters, but the outcome was so controversial that the UFC ordered a rematch several months later.

Just 90 seconds into the lightweight match, Danzig was stuck in a mounted guillotine. Wiman locked it in and was applying all sorts of pressure to Danzig’s neck. It looked bad because the choke was pretty deep, but Danzig was thinking of a way to get out of it. Danzig wasn’t close to going to sleep, but after Wiman appeared to tell referee Yves Lavigne that he was out -- and with Danzig staying still -- Lavigne stopped it. Danzig immediately sprung to his feet to protest and Wiman knew right then and there that he didn’t actually get the technical submission.
