10. Hermes Franca


A former World Extreme Cagefighting champion, Franca attempted 23 submissions during his 11-fight stay in the UFC between April 25, 2003 and Sept. 19, 2009. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt was known as much for his wild punching bursts as he was for his prowess on the mat. Nevertheless, he tapped two opponents inside the Octagon, finishing Joe Jordan with a triangle choke at UFC 61 and dispatching Jamie Varner with an armbar at UFC 62. Franca, who later challenged Sean Sherk for the lightweight championship, was at his most active in his promotional debut against Richard Crunkilton. He lobbed nine submission attempts in Crunkilton’s direction, paving the way to a unanimous decision at UFC 42.
