2. Gary Goodridge vs. Paul Herrera


For purely insane violence, no elbows in MMA history can top Goodridge’s onslaught against Herrera at UFC 8. It was Goodridge’s professional debut; the former amateur boxer and arm wrestler had little experience in grappling, but he outweighed Herrera by nearly 80 pounds, and as it turned out, that size and strength advantage would be enough.

Herrera shot in for a takedown and attempted to complete a fireman’s carry, but in the process, Goodridge locked up a crucifix and immediately began raining down elbows. The second one knocked Herrera unconscious, but it took six more before the referee called a halt to the fight.

Goodridge would go on to a long career as both a mixed martial artist and a kickboxer, and his reputation for extreme violence was solidified 13 seconds after the opening bell.
