Strikes take on many forms in mixed martial arts, from the surgical precision of Anderson Silva and Joanna Jedrzejczyk to the rugged dirty boxing of Randy Couture and the savage ground-and-pound of Fedor Emelianenko and Cain Velasquez.

They vary in impact, intensity, speed and volume, and many result in moments that are permanently etched into our collective consciousness. That is especially true in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where knees, punches, kicks and elbows populate one highlight reel after another. There was Rich Franklin’s straight left against Nate Quarry, Edson Barboza’s wheel kick on Terry Etim, Jeremy Stephens’ lunging uppercut against Rafael dos Anjos, Rashad Evans’ overhand right on Chuck Liddell, James Irvin’s flying knee against Terry Martin and Chris Weidman’s downward elbow on Mark Munoz. Countless others come to mind.
