Knee injuries have forced Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder Chris Weidman to withdraw from UFC 173, the promotion announced on March 24.

Weidman was slated to defend his championship against former light heavyweight boss Lyoto Machida in the pay-per-view main event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, but the Serra-Longo Fight Team export will be kept on the sidelines to undergo surgery on both knees. The 185-pounders will not have to wait long to square off, as the UFC has shifted their matchup to UFC 175 in July.
