Dann Stupp Joins Press Row

Every Wednesday, Administrative Editor Jordan Breen welcomes a member of the mixed martial arts media into “Press Row” on the Sherdog.com blog. This week, Breen is joined by MMA Junkie editor-in-chief and USA Today senior MMA editor Dann Stupp.

Following Anthony Johnson's stirring upset of Phil Davis in his light heavyweight UFC debut, Breen and Stupp broadly consider the topic of weight in MMA. The two discuss Johnson's emergence after his initial struggles to make 170 and 185 pounds, how people's perception of size and weight have changed in MMA history, irrational ideas about super-sized heavyweights and the curious weight-based predicaments of fighters like Joseph Benavidez and Frankie Edgar.

Breen and Stupp also analyze potentially appealing fights that could be made via weight class jumping, from the prestigious, like Demetrious Johnson-Renan Barao, to the purely intriguing, like Lyoto Machida-Roy Nelson, as well as the recent K.J. Noons-Sam Stout situation and the future of handshake deals for catch-weight fights.

Grab your credential and get a seat in “Press Row.”
