Manel Kape keeps getting closer to a shot at UFC flyweight gold.
The former Rizin Fighting Federation bantamweight king won for the sixth time in his last seven outings, as he defeated Asu Almabayev via third-round stoppage in the UFC Vegas 103 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Though a couple of eye rakes from Kape may have gone unchecked by referee Mike Beltran, it ultimately doesn’t change the final result. While Kape can’t climb any higher in the flyweight rankings due to a head-to-head loss against No. 8 Muhammad Mokaev, he does appear to be on the verge of earning a rematch with reigning flyweight champ Alexandre Pantoja, who defeated “Starboy” in his promotional debut.
Earlier on the card, Ramazonbek Temirov ended Charles Johnson’s four-bout UFC winning streak, as he captured a unanimous decision trumph in a preliminary flyweight clash. The 28-year-old Uzbekistan native has been victorious in his last 11 professional outings — a streak that dates back to April 2021. While Saturday marked the end of a five-fight finishing streak for “Temurlan,” he makes his debut in the flyweight rankings at No. 12 — one spot ahead of his vanquished foe.
