UFC 208 Bonuses: Dustin Poirier, Jim Miller Get $50K Apiece for Entertaining Brawl

On paper, Dustin Poirier-Jim Miller seemed like a potential “Fight of the Night” winner when it was announced, and the UFC 208 pay-per-view curtain jerker certainly didn’t disappoint.

Poirier and Miller banked $50,000 apiece for their featured lightweight clash at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night. While Poirier emerged with a majority decision victory on the strength of powerful punching combinations and takedowns, Miller did his share of damage with brutal leg kicks, making it difficult for “The Diamond” to put weight on his right leg in the final frame. Still, Miller’s efforts weren’t enough to overcome Poirier’s early lead on the scorecards in the entertaining slugfest.

Elsewhere, Ronaldo Souza received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for his first-round submission of Tim Boetsch in a middleweight showdown. “Jacare” caught a leg kick midway through the period, took his man down and eventually moved to mount, where he was able to isolate Boetsch’s arm and become the third UFC opponent to tap “The Barbarian” via kimura.

While the UFC normally hands out two performance bonuses, no other fighter from Saturday’s event received an award on a night when nine of the evening’s 10 bouts went the distance.
