Two-Division Champ Amanda Nunes Hopes to Defend Featherweight Belt Following UFC 245

Amanda Nunes isn’t interested in having a short run as a two-division champion.

Nunes become just the fourth fighter in UFC history to hold belts in two weight classes simultaneously when she defeated Cristiane Justino to claim featherweight gold at UFC 232 last December. Since then, Nunes defended the 135-pound title with a first-round stoppage of Holly Holm at UFC 239, and she will again put the bantamweight belt on the line against Germaine de Randamie at UFC 245 on Saturday.

After UFC 245, Nunes wants to defend her featherweight title again. In the past, two-division champions such as Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier have relinquished one of their titles due to inactivity. The same fate could eventually befall bantamweight and flyweight king Henry Cejudo.

"I want to keep doing things nobody has seen before," Nunes told ESPN. "I want to be the first one to defend the two belts."

Nunes added that she wanted to fight de Randamie, the promotion’s inaugural featherweight queen at 145 pounds, at featherweight, but the Dutchwomen preferred that the contest be booked at 135 pounds. “Lioness” also admitted that she wanted a chance to face “Cyborg” again, but the heavy-handed former champion departed for Bellator MMA after her contract expired in the summer. Nunes’ shocking 51-second knockout of Justino at UFC 232 ended a 21-fight unbeaten streak for “Cyborg.”

"The rematch would have had more eyes on it," Nunes said. "It would have been good for both of us, not only me."
