John Dodson will welcome Scott Jorgensen to the flyweight division on Dec. 14 at UFC on Fox 9.
UFC officials announced the booking Tuesday, revealing that “The Magician” will step in for the injured Ian McCall to face Jorgensen at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. The evening’s main card airs live on Fox’s flagship network and is topped by a lightweight title showdown pitting Anthony Pettis against Josh Thomson.
Dodson, 29, has won six of his last seven bouts, with his only loss in that span coming to Demetrious Johnson in a failed title bid this past January. The Jackson’s MMA rep rebounded from the setback just 10 days ago, however, when he viciously knocked out fellow top-10 talent Darrell Montague at UFC 166.
Two years older than his foe, Jorgensen will make his 125-pound debut against Dodson. “Young Guns” previously competed at bantamweight, where he unsuccessfully challenged Dominick Cruz for the World Extreme Cagefighting title back in December 2010. Though Jorgensen posted back-to-back wins to begin his UFC run, he ended his bantamweight stint on the heels of three losses in his last four fights, most recently falling to Urijah Faber this past April at the “TUF 17” finale.
