9. ‘Wake Up Jose’

Conor McGregor on Dec. 1 continued his relentless taunting of then-featherweight champion Jose Aldo when he tweeted a photo of himself with the caption, “Wake up Jose. It’s all over. The tweet expectedly created a firestorm of controversy, as the Irishman was brazenly predicting a knockout against the all-time great more than a week out from their scheduled battle at UFC 194.

The photo, which shows McGregor looking down at the camera, immediately went viral -- it was meant to provide the audience with the viewpoint of a beaten Aldo looking up at his conqueror -- and had observers in an uproar. McGregor’s detractors saw it as a disrespectful stunt; his supporters ate up his antics and viewed it as another prediction that was bound to come true.

Turns out McGregor could not have been more accurate. He flattened Aldo in 13 seconds and left the Brazilian flat on his back looking up at the lights.
